Negotiation Skills Workshop
Negotiation Skills Workshop aims to improve participants’ understanding of negotiation and their effectiveness as negotiators, with particular attention to the legal aid context. Participants will apply a negotiations framework and tools for negotiating more effectively to exercises and their legal practices. They will also observe and critique negotiations, and receive tailored feedback from experienced facilitators.

What will you learn?
By the conclusion of Negotiations Skills Workshop participants will have:
- Studied and employed the interest-based negotiations framework developed at the Harvard Program on Negotiation.
- Examined and practiced methods to identify both parties’ full interests;
- Identified and applied methods for using objective criteria to measure negotiation outcomes;
- Discussed how to separate people from problems, identified barriers to this skill, and practiced methods for overcoming these barriers;
- Brainstormed creative solutions to difficult problems, identified barriers to creative solutions, and practiced methods for overcoming them;
- Identified and employed tactics for handling situations in which the negotiator has less power than the other side;
- Engaged in four simulated negotiations that highlights all of the skills covered in the course.
- Received feedback and critique on these negotiations from highly experienced faculty members
